How to Get Involved

Want to know how to make the most out of your ACCCA membership? Easy! Get involved in an ACCCA commission. Through your work on a commission, you’ll develop meaningful relationships with colleagues around the state. You’ll also have a greater understanding of the issues impacting community colleges at the state level, and get the opportunity to influence decisions with a campus perspective.

For more than a quarter century, ACCCA commissions have provided world-class professional development and advocacy for California community college leaders. Take your ACCCA membership to the next level this year by joining one of ACCCA’s three commissions:

Through the work of the commissions, ACCCA has been able to impact legislation that affects our system, campuses, and day-to-day agendas. The commissions and their team members are central to building ACCCA’s collective voice. ACCCA commissioners have also created the most relevant and low-cost educational programs tailored to the knowledge and skill-sets essential to effective community college administration.

For those who participate on the commissions, the experience affords them needed opportunities to work with colleagues on joint issues. The interaction provides all with a level of professional development, camaraderie, and fun that is seldom found in other professional organizations.

The Management Development Commission (MDC) is the largest of the three ACCCA commissions and is divided into sub-groups responsible for the annual conference, Administration 101, Mentor Program, and timely workshops and seminars. Volunteers on this commission are good at organization, have creative talent, and value having a good time while getting things done.

If you’re the type who enjoys planning events, developing new ideas, and helping new administrators get to the next level, consider joining the MDC or one of its subgroups.

The Commission for Legislation and Advocacy (CFLA) is the place to be if you enjoy reading the op-ed page with your morning coffee. CFLA members want to have a voice. They like to be in the fray and believe they can positively influence processes, especially those that result in the crafting of the rules, regulations, policies, and legislation that can either help or hinder us in accomplishing the educational goals of our colleges.

The Communications Oversight Commission (COC) helps guide the association’s internal and external communications. This includes the ACCCA website, event publicity, monthly newsletter, member recruitment materials, publications, and organizational visibility. Volunteers to this commission are writers capable of both embracing the big picture and seeing all the details. They like change. COC members know how to work fast and make deadlines.
